DNN Garden skin

This portal demonstrates a DotNetNuke skin with:

  • A concise and semantic HTML 5 structure
  • Columns, borders and cosmetic enhancements such as drop shadows implemented with pure CSS 3
  • Legacy browser compatibility using jQuery to replicate CSS 3 features where necessary
  • Dynamic sizing, giving a good display on everything from mobile browsers to 1900 pixel widescreens
  • Use of the widget framework to implement PNG support on IE6

The design is deliberately clean and simple to avoid distracting you from the web standards, which after all is the category this is entered into.*

A live example (with a few minor tweaks) can currently be seen at www.dnngarden.com.

To get the full benefit of the CSS 3, I recommend viewing this portal in a Webkit based browser such as Chrome or Safari, but it also works well in Firefox, IE, Opera and even Lynx.

About this skin

This skin is an entry for the Modern Web Standards category of the 2010 DotNetNuke skinning contest by Mark Allan of www.dnngarden.com.

Please note that I'm a colourblind developer, not a designer, so the emphasis of this skin is on use of standards rather than visual impact!
