Judging Details

The judging committee will start working on your submissions after the closing date.

Deadline for entering the contest is February 5,  2010.

The judges will nominate a maximum of 6 skins from each category to participate in the public voting for the community favorite. These skins will have to score at least an average of 7 out of 10 points. We want to make sure that all the skins in the public voting comply with minimum standards. This means that if your skin design looks great but its HTML/XHTML is "messy", it might not be included in the public voting.

The category winners will not be announced until after the public voting so that we don't influence the community favorite selection.

The community gallery that is assembled after the contest will only contain skins that scored a minimum of 6 out of 10 possible points.  Skins in the gallery should be good examples of technical execution and packaging as well as pleasing to the eye.

How We Judge

The judging committee will evaulate skins on four criteria as follows:

  • Design/Creativity
  • Use of Framework
  • Technical Implementation
  • Educational Value

Details about Judging Criteria

  • Design/Creativity
The Design of the skin, visually and conceptually will be judged. Skins that look "modern" and (or) explore new concepts in a useable way will be highly rated. Does the skin fit the category?
  • Use of the Framework
Does the skin use the full potential of the Framework? Also rated here are skin packaging, use of skin objects, the "correct" CSS classes etc.
  • Technical implementation
How is the skin built according to modern (X)HTML / CSS standards. Use of clean and lightweight HTML/CSS, browser support, semantic markup.
  • Educational Value
We rate if a skin is educational for other skinners. Here the concept shown is more important then the actual implementation / the design. A well documented skin (in HTML/CSS) is preferred.
